That might be a possible answer, which some children might have to say when enquired about where the functions were held for their parents.

During the real estate boom, a lot of Mandapams had to quit the business and give way to the more lucrative business/retail rentals. In Velachery the tide had tossed away the following Marriage Halls..

• P.S.K. Booshanam Mahal, on Bypass Road - Now houses IOB, Coffee World, Pizza Corner and HCL CDC.
  
• Nandhini Mahal, on Velachery Main Road - Now houses Castrol BikeZone.
  
• Amirtham Hall, off Taramani Road - Now houses some speciality health care center (not sure of the name/speciality).
  
• Suba Rathan Hall, on Taramani Road - Now houses Kaaraikudi and Dhaba.
  
• Aadharsh Mahal, off Bypass Road - Now houses Fitness Escola.
  

The only new addition was Anugraha Hall, which also was tucked away from the main road.

And the remaining halls of decent size and location are Raja Kalyana Mandapam and Sri Murugan Kalyana Mandapam .

Just a couple of years ago, I used to attended functions of friends/colleagues (marriages, their children's birthday parties) in those halls. But now, the options for mandapams in Velachery have been greatly reduced.
